Good morning

Not sure if there are still people checking my blog?
I have not been posting as I used to find it difficult on the ipad and I also forgot my password :(
Have decided today is the day and I get it sorted.

So here I am back again, the start to the new year has not been easy with the loss of my mother in February and one of my sisters being unwell ( in the road of recovery )

Have been to Canberra for eight days to visit my daughter and her family as they moved end of last year.
We are now looking forward to middle of April and our sons wedding and after that I will have to look in to going back to working, not sure what, where but am sure something will come about.

Have a great day

why I don't blog.....

Hi to anyone still visiting....

why have I not been blogging, simple I am using my iPad and every time I want or think to post I find I can't upload any pictures from my iPad to my post :(

As I take most my pictures using my iPad , I find I am lazy to than email them to my computer to than write a post..... but I will try and be better as I love blogging.

have been doing a few different things, going to teach hand sewing classes and the first one is hand piecing

I am also playing with a broderie perse appliqué and have been making these blocks and see if I can combine the two
the other fun items I made have been trivets using rope and left over strips of fabric, fun and quick.

Hope all of you are busy and enjoying some creative sewing time.

The lovely Bree over here: Me and my 2 Guys ask if it was ok to interview me and put it on her blog, please check it out she did a lovely post and has a lovely blog.

Time going too fast

Hi all

Not sure why it is already so close to christmas....

What have I been doing, well my daughter had Mia Jade nearly 10 weeks ago and is now mother to four beautiful girls.
My lovely son and wife are expecting their first child at the end of march, yes the family is growing and we are loving it.

I spend 3 1/2 up north in August to help my daughter, home a few weeks, three weeks holiday to the US with two friends and having a great time. Back a few weeks and last weekend we had the 60km walk to raise money to find a cure for women's cancer.
The event raised $ 3.5 million dollars and we had 1346 walkers....... Feet are blistered and I was told three nail will come off. Never mind it was worth is, friend and myself walked 53 km out of the 60 km and are very proud.
We have signed up to do it all again.

With that the fundraising will soon start over and I can show you a few small quilts coming up for auction soon. These quilts are a challenge I set the quilters using my scraps.
Once I have all the quilts I will get someone to pick three winners, mind you I think they are all winners and will start the auction. The quilts are within 40" square and I will give sizes, quilt owners and their blog when starting the auction.

Here are a few:

Scrap Quilt challenge auction coming soon and US trip

Hi everyone still reading

I am having my last day in the US with two friends and we have had a fantastic time at Baltimore on the Prairie and Kansas as well as Lancaster PA. We are now here in LA and fly out tonight.

This is my third trip and was the best as we did not have to put up with being abused, stressed and made to feel like children. Happy times ....... All round

The scrap quilt challenge I set about 10 quilters is coming to the finish and I will soon post pictures of the little quilts, there will be three winners and I will get an independent person picking those.

These little quilts will than be auctioned and i am hoping some of you might like one.
I will post details on how soon, the processed are going to The End women's cancer walk and if we make lots pick second charity.

Happy stitching everyone

Machine binding a quilt

I thought some of you might be interested to see how I bind a quilt by machine, trim your quilt first, measure your quilt on all four sides and add about 8 inches for corners and finish.

Cut enough strips and join them all, iron and fold beginning of binding as per image.

When I do a binding complete by machine I sew it to the back of the quilt first.
This is my first slideshow/video and I hope you like it.

Happy stitching

Travel to the USA

Hi everyone

Just wondering if I could get some help regarding driving from Seneca Kansas to LA, I have googled three different routes and am wondering if there is any advise on what roads to travel on and so on.
Any help would be very much appreciated, also are there any must see shops or antique places.

The third question we need to stay over night in different places and are there Hotel/ Motels that are better than others?

Thank you everyone, also thank you to everyone leaving a comment on my previous page regarding

Scrap Basket Sunday

I have decided to join Kim for the Scrap Basket Sunday and the reason being is that I need to finish a challenge made from scraps given to me.

As I have challenged 11 others to work with 500g of my scraps I thought it would only be fair that I work with some of theirs, I am going to auction the quilts in October for charity.

This is what I have made so far....

I am going to do a little more applique this afternoon.
Happy stitching

This is why I do the End Women's cancer walk

Good morning to you all.

I am feeling a little emotional this morning and this is why:

I had day surgery yesterday and I guess the anesthetic is playing with my head. Anyhow I am home and feeling good and waiting to get the results hopefully by Monday.

As I put some things away this morning in to a trunk I came across a drawing and it is my Dad.
He is the real reason why I am doing the 60 klm walk, while it is called End Women's cancer walk, I am sure it will also benefit cancer in Men.

My Dad was my step dad and he married my mother in 1964 when I was just 3 years old. He met my Mother at a dance and ask her out, she said you need to know that I have seven children at home.

He laughed and said: Look you only have to say no if you don't want to meet again and she said no no it is true my husband left and I have seven children.

They arranged for him to come and visit and we all lined up at the door, he came with chocolate's and we told him that we didn't like those. My Dad thought that we must be very spoilt children, anyhow he stayed and became my Dad.

My only Dad.

We moved to Australia in 1983 and visited Germany in 1986 for three month and again in 1991, but this time because my Dad was sick with a brain tumor and not long to live.
I spend nearly three month with him, not the Dad I had but my sick Dad, I never forget the day I had to say goodbye to him for the last time, the kids had to go back to school in Australia and we had to leave.
We left in August and he past away in November, he wanted to around for his 25th wedding anniversary and made it.

He sat on the hospital bench near the lift with those very sad blue eyes and that is how I remember him.

The drawing of him should be in a frame but i can't bring myself to hang it up and that is why it was in the trunk.
I got it when my two sister came to visit and we went to the local country market, i didn't realise but they arranged to have this drawing done from one of his passport photos and didn't tell me.
So I couldn't understand why they wanted to go back to the market the next weekend.
We walk around and as we came past this cottage i look around and saw this drawing hanging on the veranda looking at me, stopped and staid to my sisters: look at that it could be Dad, they laughed and I cried.
It first I was very angry for them to do this to me, but I do love the drawing with one exception:

My Dad had the bluest eyes.
Thank you for letting me share this and if you can support my walk, you can buy a sticker or donate.
Details are in the previous post.

The End Women's Cancer walk

Thank you for all your lovely comments, I thought I should write a little more about the 60klm walk.

It will be done over two days on the last weekend in October 2013, I have plenty of time to get ready.
I am doing about an hour everyday (  only just started training)  enjoying walking by the ocean.

The money raised will be given to the Queensland Medical Institute of Research and hopefully one day find a cure for any cancer.

All participants need to raise $2000 and I do have a homepage here: Christine Cohrs

I appreciate any support you can give me or my team, there are three others taking part and they are Deidre, her daughter Sarah and Jo and they too are raising $2000 each.

In my previous post you find the offer for one of my patterns, all you have to do is donate minimum of $10 via my page and email me your details and I get it posted.

For others living in Brisbane, Sharon at Patches has kindly offered to have one of my Quilts hanging and selling Raffle tickets for me, they are $2 each or three for $5.

For every $5 donated you get three tickets in the draw and the quilt will be drawn on the first Thursday in July.
This is the quilt up for Raffle.

The Dresden plate logo you see is a car sticker and 3 x 5 inches in size, it is a sun and waterproof sticker made from vinyl, the quilt in the background is mine and I will have these for sale very soon.
They are going to be $10 each, if you are interested let me know and I put your name on the list, they are available in about 7 days.

The reason I am doing the walk are:
three beautiful grand daughters
daughter inlaws
girl friends
every woman
Thank you for reading and your donation

Applique and piecing

I guess I have been so busy with other stuff you all must think I have given up stitching?

Noooo I haven't, I have been working on a pattern by Sue Garman called Afternoon Delight and love the little blocks. They are the ones in the top two pictures.

I hang some small quilts, the red house quilt was my by Janet for a swap I had and of course some baking - Plum cake.
Started my walking to be ready to do the 60km in October.

Still sitting in my PJ and am feeling like a coffee.

Tuesday was a difficult day for myself and my husband as our daughter left on a flight with her three beautiful girls to meet with her husband 1500km away form us.

Tried to be strong but couldn't hold back the tears as I hug them goodbye, spend the last three days crying my eyes out.
Tonight was wonderful as the phone rang and a little voice said hallo Oma can you give us a call back if you have time? We get free national calls and they don't of course I have time, it was lovely to speak with the two older ones, but I miss them all so much.

Even my husband cried on and off on Tuesday and I didn't realise until then how much it is affecting him too.

I must try and get in to my sewing room and create and be happy about knowing all went well with the big move and I am visiting very soon.

Thanks again for listening and I promise the next post will be happy and pictures of some sewing.

Lesson learned

I often wonder why we say that it is good for us to learn lessons in life by going through them?
2012 however has taught me another lesson and that is to trust my instinct when it comes to people.

Over the years I have stopped doing it as I thought I should always try and see the best in people first.

The lesson I have learned is that don't trust what someone tells you and not check for yourself, I have been told one thing and another was the truth and it has cost me a considered amount of money.
Money I could have spend on my family and not on someone else's travel ( if you are reading this, yes I am talking about you, hope you sleep well at night).

I now have to make a decision on where to go from here as I have been advised to take it further.

2013 is going to be a new start, a more assertive me, lots of visits to my grand babies and spending quality time with friends and family.
Forgot  another trip to the US with a couple of friends without having to stroke someones ego and paying for them too.
Feeling better now that this is of my chest, thanks for listening.

Happy sewing to you all

Happy New Year and big changes

Happy New Year to you all and sorry about being so quiet here on my blog. Time has just not been right and I will try and get back in to the swing of things.
The biggest change will be coming on Tuesday as my beautiful daughter and her family will be moving 1500klm away from us. As for all that know me, this will be very difficult for me. I see my lovely three little munchkins just about everyday and I worry about them being so far away.

Guess when my husband and I decided to move our little family in 1983 all the way to Australia we didn't think how it would affect the rest of the family. Guess what now I know and I don't like it.

On a happier note, I have listed some items on my Facebook page and will work out a link if you care to have a look sometime.

Have been doing a little sewing and got some appliqué done.
I have also got a pattern set for sale called Afternoon Delight by Sue Garman and it is $65 including postage in Australia.
Have stitched one block, it is the pinky/ red appliqué one.

Happy sewing to you all
